Amora is a Portuguese city and parish in the municipality of Seixal, district of Setúbal, with an area of 27.31 km2 and 48,629 inhabitants (2011 census). The history of Amora dates back to Roman times, a time when Seixal was also formed. Amora was a place made up of farms and vast vegetable gardens, mainly with vineyards and mulberry trees (probably what gave rise to its name), which remained until the construction of the 25 de Abril Bridge in 1966. As a parish, it emerged at the end of the 19th century. XIV, it remained under the control of Almada until 1936, when it became part of the newly created municipality of Seixal.
This parish is part of a relatively young municipality, which despite following the aging trend of the rest of the Portuguese population, has done so more slowly. According to data from INE, the population of Amora is mostly of working age. In the 60s and 70s there was a large influx of migration from other areas of the country, mainly from the South, after April 25, 1974 with the arrival of immigrants from the PALOP. These two factors have been decisive for the region's economy. Currently, large urban development projects and services are planned for the riverside area. These include the renovation of the Amora Futebol Clube sports complex, a luxury hotel and the creation of a recreational port.
