About Palmela: Topping the white houses, the majestic Castelo de Palmela overlooks the vast region next to the Sado estuary. It is a magnificent viewpoint for Setúbal, Troia, for the mountains that form part of the mountain range that unites Palmela, Setúbal and Sesimbra.

Palmela has been a village for over 600 years, but its castle is very old, from the time of the Islamic occupation and passed into the hands of the fearful knights of Santiago de Espada with the Christian reconquest. Palmela became its seat (formerly Alcácer do Sal) from the 15th to the 19th century.
Outside the village, the countryside has excellent conditions, with sun and climate, for the production of table grapes (from the oldest wine-growing regions in the country) and for raising the sheep that are the origin of the unmistakable cheese of Azeitão.
